The Greatest Gift!
by Wayne Dawson

It is the holiday season, and as we think about the giving and receiving gifts, it is also a time to think about the greatest gift of all, a gift from our Heavenly Father, a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.

Indeed the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is a glowing example of God's love for His children.

That the creator of the universe would humble himself and come to earth in human form, is proof of His concern for our salvation.

That the great I Am would submit himself to be beaten, spit upon and humiliated, and then allow himself to be nailed to an old rugged cross, is evidence of His compassion for a world lost in a spiral of sin.

That the Alpha and the Omega would rise from the grave and then ascend to the Father, is an example of how much He cares for our eternal destiny, for it is through His resurrection that we too can experience the joy of everlasting life.

Yes, Jesus is the greatest gift of all, He's the gift that keeps on giving. He gives us strength when the pressures of life beat us down, and we're too weak to find our way...

He gives us hope when the storm clouds of adversity roll in, and the darkness of night seems like a never-ending journey of uncertainty...

He gives us peace in a world where the enemy is determined to destroy our joy and our spirit...

He lifts us up when we're down, because like David said in Psalms 37:24..."Though they stumble they will not fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand."

Finally, He forgives us, indeed in the book of Isaiah it is written, "All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God's path to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on Him the guilt and sins of us all." Isaiah 53:6. Yes, Jesus took with him your sins and mine to the cross.

That's why like the Apostle Paul we can boldly proclaim, we are "more than conquerors", " we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us," and indeed, "no weapon formed against us shall prosper."

So during this season of holiday joy we should pause for a moment to say a silent prayer of thanks for the gift that keeps on giving, born in a manger, He now sits on his heavenly throne, Jesus Christ, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the greatest gift of all.

Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is a glowing example of God's love for His children.
