Totally Devoted To You
by Bill Martin

Most of you I'm sure remember the old song, "Jesus loves me this I know, for the bible tells me so?"

The question to you is, do you really know that God loves you? Can you feel it? Can you feel it? Is it like a love for your child, sister, father or perhaps a friend. I know we've all heard someone say, "God loves you", but how many really believe it deep down inside. A feeling that you know is completely real.

Ephesians 1:18 "Then you have a deeper insight. You will know the confidence that he calls you to have and the glorious wealth that God's people will inherit."

I'm at that part of my faith-walk where I've really begun to understand God's love for me. I am in awe that he wants to love me. God is in action. It's that action creating a new level of confidence in me.

For the first time in a long time, I've made a pledge to stop and recharge. I've had an especially hard time saying no to speaking requests, to calls for help, to just anything really. I've been so blessed; I want to be a blessing to others. Acts 20:35 "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive."

The problem is, I ran myself empty last year blessing others. So in 2002, at least for the first couple of months, I'm filling up with Gods word and peace. Philippians 4:6-7

"Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests while giving thanks. Then God's peace, which goes beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your thoughts and emotions through Jesus Christ."

It was just the other night when I was in my bible studies. I really began to think about the action of love. Love is both a noun and a verb. The Oxford Dictionary defines love as, among other things, "to be devoted to." I am devoted to my wife. I show my devotion to her with a kiss or hug, a trip to the movies, a special note or word. My kids love to be held, read to, or simply enjoy sleeping on my chest.

Lee Greenwood sings in his hit song, Totally Devoted To You: "?just to justify our sins?that the father still forgives and in Jesus Christ a brand new life begins, totally devoted to you?"

God has always been devoted to us and involved in our lives. In the very beginning (Genesis 1:27-31) God was intimate through direct communication or dreams and visions. During the time of Moses, God communicated with the written word Exodus (20: 1-21). Now we have the Bible. It's God's instruction manual for living to honor Him.

Theologians call it, "the fact of revelation". God makes Himself known to us. Romans 1:19 "since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them", because of what and who we are; limited. Ephesians 4:18 "They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God." We can't hope to find our God by our own searching but we can with His help. Job 11:7 "Can you fathom the mysteries of God?"

The problem is, you have to stop and give in. John 5:47 "But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"

Once you stop and listen, you will find God waiting for you. He will be in the quiet at that moment, devoted to you and only you!

1 John 4:10 "This is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the payment for our sins."
