Florida's Ban on Homosexual Adoption Likely to Stand

(AgapePress) - It appears Rosie O'Donnell may be in for an uphill battle in her campaign to legalize homosexual adoption in Florida.

O'Donnell has gained a lot of media attention in recent weeks. She went public with her declaration of being a lesbian and announced the launching of a campaign to force Florida to accept homosexual adoption. But a poll done in the last several days indicates that is not what most Floridians want.

According to The Orlando Sentinel, one of the papers which commissioned the poll, 40% of those surveyed said they would be less likely to vote for a gubernatorial candidate who advocated allowing homosexual "couples" to adopt. Only 15% said they would favor a politician who supported such a measure.

Jim Kane is with Florida Voter, the company that did the poll. He says based on these results, this issue is "dead on arrival" in Tallahassee.

Florida is the only state in the country with a law banning homosexual adoption. It was passed in 1977 in the midst of singer Anita Bryant's campaign against special rights for homosexuals.
