Connection Receives Awards from CNA
Each year America's finest Christian regional publications are identified and honored by the Christian Newspaper Association. This Year Connection Magazine made a surprising impression.
Minneapolis-On September 12-14, the Christian Newspaper Association hosted their annual convention, which included identifying the best Christian regional publications from the U.S. and Canada.
Connection Magazine, one of seventy member publications of the CNA, was awarded third place for "Best News Story". The winning article titled 'Notorious Jewel Thief' was written by Michelle Yowler, and appeared in the June, 2001 issue of Connection Magazine. Presenting the awards was CNA Director Mike Beard, a Republican candidate for the Minnesota State Senate. "Connection Magazine is a fine publication that makes us all look good," said Beard.
Of only six categories of awards, Connection Magazine also received second place for 'Best Front Page Design' for the October, 2001 edition. Accepting the awards for Connection Magazine was Founder and Editor, Jon Hanna." I'm thankful to God for counting me worthy and equipping me to spread the gospel of Jesus in a contemporary way such as this," said Hanna, surprised by the awards.
Now in its sixth year, Connection Magazine has over 50,000 readers in Northeast Ohio, including Greater Cleveland, Akron and Canton. The monthly publication is currently ninety-percent supported by advertisers and ten-percent through tax deductible donations. It is Hanna's long-term vision to obtain more donations for the purpose of expanding to other major American markets where there is not a free Christian magazine or newspaper publicly distributed.
Connection Magazine is free and distributed at hundreds of Northeast Ohio churches as well as coffee shops, bookstores, schools and libraries. Over fifty-percent of Connection Magazine is disseminated through grocery stores including many Giant Eagles, all TOPS Supermarkets, all Acme Stores, all Marc's Discount Stores and a variety of other locations.
While most of the CNA member publications use churches as their primary source of dissemination, Connection Magazine has the highest percentage of public distribution. According to Arthur Crittenden of the Russ Reid Corporation, "The store distribution is probably why Connection Magazine is one of the top two CNA papers in America producing the best results for World Vision."
Connection Magazine has also been effective at fulfilling its all-time vision of glorifying God, edifying the church and reaching the lost. Connection Magazine's accessibility to the general public has helped many un-churched readers renew their childhood faith in God or come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior for the very first time. In addition, many individual Christians as well as entire ministries have made valuable connections with one another, strengthening the efforts and faith of all.
