World Evangelical Alliance Re-Affirms Evangelical Commitment To Mission to Jews

In response to recent statements by American Catholic Bishops and liberal Protestant theologians questioning the need for a Christian witness to the Jewish people, World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) has re-released the Willowbank Declaration on the Christian Gospel and the Jewish People. This twenty-seven article document affirms that "the church's obligation to share saving knowledge of Christ with the whole human race includes the evangelizing of Jewish people as a priority: "To the Jew first" (Romans 1:16) Article IV.20

Eminent Anglican theologian and popular writer, Dr. J.I. Packer, upon hearing news of this re-release, said, "I believe the Willowbank Declaration expresses the truth of this matter and therefore I am delighted at its re-release. Sharing Jesus Christ with our Jewish friends is as important a task as ever it was."

Gary Edmonds, Secretary General of WEA, pointed out that "the issue of presenting a loving yet forthright Christian witness to the Jewish people was settled back in 1989 when we produced the declaration. It is re-issued now to guide Christians as they establish a posture and relate to Jewish people today."

This re-release was done in association with Jews for Jesus and can be found on both the World Evangelical Alliance and Jews for Jesus websites at the following URLS:
