(AgapePress) …An expert on Bible prophecy says recent world events are paving the way for a future one-world religion.

Over the past few years, the United Nations has held important meetings involving religious leaders who have united in what they call "a common desire for peace." And just last week in Chicago, high-profile Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and Muslim leaders convened an "interfaith summit" to discuss the role of religion in post-Saddam Iraq.

Bible scholar Dave Hunt of The Berean Call says a large step toward a universal religion was taken shortly after the 9/11 terror attacks.

"You saw the memorial services," Hunt says. "You had a Buddhist, a Hindu, a Muslim, a Sikh, an evangelical Christian, all praying to 'god'? To what god? An evangelical doesn't say, 'Wait a minute. You don't know the true God. I want you to know the true God.' We're getting the impression that it doesn't matter what religion you have, let's all join together."

Hunt says we are moving more and more in the direction of an international organization that the anti-Christ will be able to take over and use for his purposes. Along those lines, he says the United Nations is an "evil" organization that will likely be a tool of the anti-Christ during the tribulation.

In Hunt's opinion, the U.N.'s hatred for God's chosen people is well documented.
"They have condemned Israel more than 370 times," he states. "Never once have they condemned the terrorists. Never once have they condemned the nations around Israel for sneak attacks, for starting wars -- not once. So I don't expect justice to come out of the United Nations."

Hunt says it is no coincidence that the U.N. is taking on an increasing role as the international policeman in world affairs .
