Don't Be Afraid To Use Your Gifts

by Danita Harris

Fall is here!!! It's a new season and a new day. So why are you still carrying the same old baggage from the summer? Shake it off!! It's time for you to get excited about life and get pumped up about what God has called you to do. You see, God is doing a wonderful work in just don't feel it because you haven't opened up to it.

Ephesians 2:10 says "We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." If you're having a problem embracing something good about yourself, remember that God created you. The master potter molded you into being...but He's not finished with you yet. He has a work for you to do. That's right, God has an assignment that only you can fulfill. But you won't know what that is, if you don't shake off the blahs and embrace the will of God.

Stop saying "it's too hard", "I can't do it", "I'm too tired"....all nonsense. God has prepared you for this time and it is He who will provide everything you need to complete the work. God is faithful like that! So, now what's your excuse? Take advantage of this new season to start a new chapter in your life. What have you been putting off because of fear? Or is it you just don't have the time? Let me tell you this..if God has called you to do something, time, fear, and whatever else you can conjure up in your mind, has to go. As Christians we are to be obedient to His voice. No matter what the situation looks like or if the odds are stacked against you, with God ALL things are possible. God doesn't set you up to fail yourself when you don't heed the word of God.

Let me make this real for you. I've always loved to write and God told me a long time ago, that I was to encourage people in Him. When Jon Hanna approached me about writing a column for this magazine, I told him that I couldn't do it because I didn't have the time and I really didn't believe that I had anything to say that would encourage people. Translation: I WAS FEARFUL! I was focused on Danita and what Danita could and could not do. I totally took God out of the picture. But praise God that the publisher of this magazine is obedient to what the Lord places in his spirit. He didn't take "no" for an answer. He was persistent on sharing with me that the Lord led him to ask me to write a column for Connection. Honestly, deep down inside the Holy Spirit was confirming it in me to write, but fear was still hanging around.

But it's not about Danita or Jon Hanna. It's about fulfilling the will of God. I prayed about it, kicked fear and all of my excuses to the curb, and told Jon I would write a monthly column. I was trying to dodge my assignment because I was too focused on myself. Not thinking about what God was trying to do through me to help others. I think some of you know what I'm talking about. When God created me He placed in me a love for writing. That passion is now being used to do good works(Ephesians 2:10) God had prepared me, through many of life's experiences, to share His goodness with you. When Jon Hanna approached me about sharing my gift, it was my time. I had to shake off the old stuff and embrace a new challenge.

It's a new season. It's a new day. What do you need to shake off in order to fulfill the call that God has placed on your life. Your excuses are just that...excuses. Fear can be erased by putting complete faith and trust in the one who created you...God. Stop sitting on your gift. Stand up! Shake off the's time for you to bless!!!
