Jesus' Word Is Offensive
1Peter 2:8 To those who are dissobedient, Jesus has become “ A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word...
Example, King Jehoiakim was so offended...
Jeremiah 36:23-26 Whenever Jehudi had read three or four columns of the scroll (Jeremiah dictated by God's authority), the king cut them off with a scribe’s knife and threw them into the firepot, until the entire scroll was burned in the fire. The king and all his attendants who heard all these words showed no fear, nor did they tear their clothes. Even though Elnathan, Delaiah and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them. Instead, the king commanded...Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet (to be arrested).
How about the time the high priest was so offended at Jesus' Word
Acts 5:17 (He)...rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees)... were filled with indignation, and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison.
All because God commanded the appostles to...
Acts 5:20 & 27-29 “Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life.” (But)... the high priest asked them, saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name (Jesus)? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine... But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.
Thankfully...
acts 5:42 ...they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ...daily in the temple, and in every house...
Acts 21:30-31 ...the people ran together, seized Paul, and dragged him out of the temple; and immediately the doors were shut...they (even sought) to kill Paul...
Acts 26:20-21 (Because Paul taught)...that (all) should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance. For these reasons the Jews seized (him) in the temple and tried to kill (him).
You see...
John 9:22 ...the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that (Jesus) was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.
We can't forget when Jesus said...
Matthew 15:11-12 ...Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.” ...“Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”
Or when He said...
John 6:54, 61 & 66 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, “Does this offend you? From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.
Jesus warned us that...
Matthew 24:10 ...many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
But...
Matthew 11:6 "blessed is he who is not offended because of (Jesus).”
Matthew 10:34 (Think not that Jesus came) to send peace on earth: (He) came not to send peace, but a sword.
Luke 12:49 “(Jesus) came to send fire on the earth, and how (He wishes) it were already kindled!
Romans 16:17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them.
Hebrews 4:12 ...the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
John 12:48 He who rejects (Jesus), and does not receive (His) words, has that which judges him—(Jesus' word) will judge him in the last day.
Jesus warned us that...
John 16:2-3 They (would) put (us) out of the synagogues; (and that)...the time is coming that whoever kills (us) will think that he offers God service. And these things they will do to (us) because they have not known the Father nor (Jesus).
