Stacy Bell

by Matthias R. Monschein        If you know God's hand is in everything, you can trust with faith that things will all be ok. Faith in God is exactly the thing that brought Fox 8's Stacy Bell to the city of Cleveland in the summer of 1998.

Prior to coming to Cleveland, Stacy had been working at a television station in Shreveport, Louisiana during a time when the Lord was testing her endurance and faith. She soon found out that there are countless blessings waiting for those people who wait on the Lord to act at the right time.

"At my last job I was coming up to my contract ending and felt that it was time to move on. The only problem was that I didn't have another job lined up. I met with my station manager and said to him that I didn't want to resign my contract and that I felt it was time for me to move on. I was hoping that he would keep me on as a part time reporter so I could continue to work while I looked for that next job."

Stacy's boss gave her an ultimatum that wasn't exactly what she expected. Either sign the contract renewal committing her to a longer stay or in thirty days when the contract expires she will be out of a job. She did not sign that contract.

It says in the 2nd book of Corinthians 5:7 that " We live by faith, not by sight." Stacy wasn't sure if she was making the right decision and had mixed emotions about the whole thing but knew that God was in control.

"I didn't panic but the scariest thing for me about all of this, was being 28 years old, living on my own and knowing that in less than a month I was not going to have a job. That was when my faith in God came into play. I knew that I had to trust in God. I also knew that He would send a job opportunity my way when the time was right. I waited patiently for the Lord and on the very last day of my contract, Fox 8 News Director, Greg Easterly, phoned me, offering me a job at the station in which I accepted. I was preparing for the worst-case scenario but I always trusted that God was in control of the whole situation."

God's perfect timing put Stacy in the perfect place at just the right time. Stacy, who was very successful at her last job, was unknowingly about to springboard her television career by moving to Cleveland.

"When I came to Cleveland, it was very hard to move and start all over again. It's always hard to meet new people and find a new church. I must have looked at 10 different churches before I found one that I liked here. Another thing was finding out there were Christian people in the workplace that you can trust. In spite of it all, I was looking forward to it because I wanted the challenge and I wanted to do something different."

As Stacy began her new job at the Fox 8 studios, it didn't take very long to find out that she wasn't a stranger in a strange place. She was among friends who made her feel right at home. She soon found out the importance of working with people who all shared the same morals and values but also the very same belief in a Savior that died on a cross for our sins.

"It is such a blessing and such a strength to be around people who share that same mind set."

One of the first friends that Stacy found was morning show anchor Wayne Dawson.

" I go to Wayne a lot for advice because he has been in broadcasting for so long and this is such a competitive business and there is always gossip going around. I go to him and ask how he deals with all this and rise above it? He always says to me that there is something bigger going on here, and to always keep your focus on God."

"I believe that God brought me to Fox 8 specifically for that reason. There are so many faith filled people here at the station that are willing to help at any time. If you're having a bad day and need someone to talk with or if you're having a great day and you can lift up somebody else, it's such a blessing to be here and know that you're around people like Bill Martin, Andre Bernier, Jon Laufman, and Wayne in the news department."

Stacey also mentioned to me that before news casts she and Bill Martin pray together. " It gives us a chance to glorify God and remain focused on him. We connect on a whole other level, other than just being co-workers. He has been a God-send! "

When asked what she considered to be one of her biggest achievements she said that getting the 5 o'clock news show was a big highlight. " Bill and I have been doing this for a little over a year now and I had been here not even 2 years when I got that promotion. So many times, to get a promotion in this business you have to be replacing someone that got demoted. But in this case Macie Jepson got a better job and it opened a door. I know it was God. No one got fired or demoted or booted for it to be possible for me to be blessed with this job."

Stacey believes, like other Christians, that it is important that we surround ourselves with other people who are centered in Christ, because it keeps us centered as well. God has taken it upon Himself to surround her with other believers, but it was Stacey's faith and trust that the Lord would always take care of her that brought her to this point. Her favorite verse in the bible is Romans 8:28 that states " And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him."

Stacey Bell can be seen weeknights as co-anchor of FOX 8 NEWS AT FIVE. She also serves as a reporter on various editions of FOX 8 NEWS.
