The Truth Will Set You Free!

These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and
searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
(Acts 17:11)

by Danita Harris        As the fall season approaches, my spirit becomes excited. You see, fall is my favorite season. I look forward to the change in the weather...from hot to a comfortable cool. I love the high school football games and quiet afternoon walks while sporting my favorite orange sweater. The autumn season brings new colors to the trees. The leaves bear shades of orange and yellow. Even on a cloudy day, the speckled foliage adds brightness to any scene.

Some of us know what it's like to experience a "cloudy day" even when the sun is shining. Those days when we just can't see our trial ever ending. When our judgement isn't clear because we're distracted by circumstances on the job, in the home and even in our place of worship. Those times when we just feel blah on the inside and we're wondering if we will ever feel good about who we are. It's just plain old "cloudy" and the sun seems so far away.

When I stand outside on a cloudy fall day, I see the colorful, bright leaves on the trees and yes, I see the many clouds in the sky. And it reminds me of the beauty that comes with having a relationship with God. Because when we experience those cloudy times in our lives, it's our relationship with Him that will renew and brighten our spirits. When you look outside on a cloudy day, all you see are clouds. But the clouds are masking the sun. Yes, the sun is definitely there. Just like our relationship with the Lord. Once you accept the Lord into your heart, He lives within your heart. He is the light that shines within you. So when our lives become "cloudy", Jesus is our light, our brightness, our splash of color in an otherwise dull existence. Even when you feel like Jesus isn't there, He is and He wants to help you through your "cloudy days".

The R&B singing group "The Temptations" sang a song that said they had sunshine on a cloudy day. They attributed their "sunshine" feeling to their sweetheart, the exact words being "My Girl". Well, I want to tell you that the REAL sunshine comes from "My God" and he loves you very much.

God is my sunshine on a cloudy day whether it's fall, winter, spring or summer. His word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105) And once you accept the Lord into your heart you will see that He is your light and your salvation. Whom, and I'll add "what", shall you fear? (Psalm 27:1)

So come on out of those clouds. Don't let those doubts overwhelm you and use that mustard seed of faith to stomp out that fear.

As the fall season approaches, and you watch the leaves begin to change, know that the same God who is painting that beautiful fall picture for you to see and appreciate, is the same God who created a beautiful and bright you.
