Bills testimony, begins with Jesus reeling him in, at the age of nineteen. At the time, he was working toward his degree in Communications, at The University of Greeley, in Colorado. He went to see the movie "Jesus of Nazareth" with a few buddies. Upon returning home, he started to think about getting to know Jesus. Just then, to his utmost surprise, the telephone rang. It was John from Campus Crusade for Christ, "Hello Bill Im calling you to see if you would like to know more about Jesus Christ," John replied. "Funny you should call, but I just had that thought a minute ago," Bill exclaimed. Bill accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and then went on to work for Campus Crusade for Christ. After having received his degree in Communications, he obtained a job as an anchorman and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming. He slowly began to drift away from Christ unknowingly, because he had not been planted in a local church. Today, he now realizes the importance of being planted and rooted within a local church.
Shifting the spotlight to Judys testimony, shes a Clevelander, that has been raised in a Catholic church all of her life. She is a graduate of Cleveland State University, with a degree in Communications as well. Upon graduation, Judy landed a job as a news reporter, and then moved to West Palm Beach, Florida. In 1984, God prompted Judys heart to seek another job. She began her search in The Broadcasting Trade Journal. Simultaneously, God also prompted Bills heart to pick up the same issue and seek out another job too. Bill and Judy applied for the same job in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, so without any further hesitation, they both were hired! Call it ironic, call it a coincidence, but I call it two people appointed by God Almighty to become one flesh.
Bill and Judy were united in Holy matrimony, and even to this day, hold the vows theyve taken before the Lord sacred. The focal point in proper alignment is clearly seen within the family unit. Bill places himself under the authority of Jesus Christ, and assumes his position as the head of his wife Judy, as it is commanded in Ephesians 5:23. "For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body". Likewise, Judy submits to the leadership of her husband. Early on in our conversation, Judy shared with me that she and Bill did not attend the same church, and this arose my curiosity. This told me that even though Bill is the head of Judy, he does not abuse his authority, by taking away her right to choose. The pure love of Christ is seen in this marriage, for Bill understands that love does not force one to embrace another ones authority. Just as Christ never forced His love on us, for then it would no longer be love. As a matter of fact, when I asked Judy what her favorite scripture was, she quoted 1 Corinthians 13. "Love is patient, love is kind.....", rolled out of their daughter Katies mouth. A song titled "Sunlight Island" that was orchestrated at the Catholic school she attends, and is also Katies favorite scripture.
As godly parents, Bill and Judy teaches Katie the difference between religion, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I asked the couple if theyd seen the fruits of spiritual gifts manifesting in Katies life, "Katie has the gift of healing, but not in laying on with hands, her love touches hearts," Bill replied. Judy confirmed Bills statement with a situation that occurred last month, when some children outcasted another child in front of their home. The children are all in the third grade, including Katie, except for one little boy that is in the first grade. All the third graders were writing their names in Katies driveway, but they wouldnt let the first grader, their reason being that his handwriting was too sloppy. This upset Katie, and she said, "This is my driveway, I want Greg to write his name, because hes a person too". Isnt it amazing, how God even uses little children, to set a Christ like example?
As the time goes by, Bill and Judy can see the fruit of the spirit ripening in their lives. They are no longer "closet Christians", as Bill put it. His favorite scripture is Luke 5:1-7, where Jesus told Simon to go back out into the boat, and cast the nets again. Bill proclaimed that this passage is a great testimony in his life, for as God filled the nets with fish to the breaking point, God also blessed Bill. "God is the God of increase, wealth and bounty", Bill exclaimed. Its evident that God in fact has blessed the Martin family. God has given Bill a wonderful job as morning anchorman at News Center 8.
